WOMENS DAY CELEBRATED


International Women’s Day organized by CODP was celebrated jointly by 4 Mahasanghas viz., Tejaswini-Badiadka, Margadarshini-Kumbla, Adarsha-Kumbdaje and Hosa Jeevana-Kalthur on 8th March 2010. The day’s programme was marked by a Rally from Nirchal to Bela followed by awareness talk and cultural programme at the Bela Church hall.

 


The Rally was flagged off by Sri Siby Thomas; Sub-Inspector of Badiadka. Fr Basil Vas, Parish Priest Bela inaugurated the programme. Fr Onil D’Souza, Director CODP, Smt. Matilda D’Souza, President Spandana Mahila Okkoota Kumbla and Sri M.S. Thomas, President Puttige Grama Panchayat were the other dignitaries present on the dais.

 


In his presidential address, Fr Onil D’Souza spoke on the Womens Reservation Bill, representation of women in local bodies specially in the coastal regions and also economic improvement and leadership qualities observed among women. Mr Tharanath Madhur spoke on the Panchayat Raj system and how to contest elections.


The day culminated with cultural programme presented by sangha women followed by lunch for around 500 members who participated in the day’s activities.
