Exposure visit to Varanashi Organic farm |

Feb.27, 2010: The Bandhavya Forum organized a day’s exposure visit to Varanashi Organic Farm at Adyanadka, Vittla. 26 farmers and 9 staff members representing the partner NGOs had an interactive session with Dr Krishnamurthy, Managing Director of the farm. He briefed the visitors in detail about the farm’s origin, functioning, activities, problems faced and tackled, etc.

Later in the day Mr Sadananda, a staff member of VOF guided the group through the farm and nursery and explained about the methods used in growing cocoa, areca, vanilla, vegetables, herbal plants etc., organically. He also showed the percolation pits, trenches and compost units set up by them.

In the afternoon, the group visited Mr Sanjeeva Banta, a successful organic farmer with a ‘one cow’ dairy, and Mr Mahalinga Nayak who has created a small farm using perennial water source. Both the farmers narrated to the group their respective success stories.
