A half day programme on “National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005” was organized by NGOs of Dakshina Kannada Dist at CODP-ISD Mangalore on 22.06.2009. The programme was inaugurated by Mr Shivashankar, CEO, Zilla Panchayat in the presence of Fr Onil D'Souza, Director CODP and Mr Mohammed Nazeer, Mr C. Chandrashekar, Mr Nagesh, Mr Elias also from Zilla Panchayat, D.K. Dist

Speaking on the occasion Mr Shivashankar explained in detail about the scheme and its advantages to the rural labour class. He said that the NREG Act was being implemented in order to guarantee jobs for the rural masses whose main source of employment is agriculture which does not guarantee full time employment. This scheme will benefit labourers working under projects like watershed, prevention of soil erosion, improvement of SC/ST settlements, etc. Thereafter, Mr Nagesh and Mr Elias shared their experiences in the implementation of this scheme in different villages of the district.

Earlier in the day Fr Onil D’Souza, Director of CODP welcomed the participants and introduced the resource persons to the gathering. Mr Shankar Shetty, CODP compeered the programme and Mr Victor Vas, Spandana presented the vote of thanks. In all 79 members were present.
